Football player, the legendary member of Romanian and Hungarian national football team.
He was born in Temesvár (Timisoara). He is the one of the best European football players in the third and fourth decades of the 20th century. He wins national championships in two countries, Romania and Hungary, and plays in the national football teams of both countries.
Although the football team from Arad would like to enjoy the success related to the football match played in the country, the Délmagyarországi Közlöny magazine, more exactly its issue published in June 11, 1899, publishes the proof that Timisoara is certified to enjoy the success: the historically important football match develops between two gymnasiums from Timisoara, the charitable school and the state theoretical gymnasium, in the presence of the mayor, Telbisz Károly. During the next two decades the people living in Timisoara are so fond of fottball matches that the town and later Romania becomes the most powerful football centre. The Kinizsi football team founded in 1910 wins the national championship in 1922. Then, as he belongs to the violet and whites’ team, he also wins the next five championships.
Táncos-Tänzer Mihály represents the outstanding and relevant personality of this essential period of time.
After he catches the researchers’ attention by means of his technical sport abilities, approached when playing football, and due to his scores, he is considered one of the most appreciated young football players. In 1918, at the age of 13, he becomes the certified player of the Civil Servants’ Sport Club (TVSC) in Timisoara. Two years later, in 1920, he is certified in a more qualified team, the Association of Worker Trainers in Timisoara. He plays in the team of the TMTE for only one year, as in 1921, at the request both of Franz Döme, a famous trainer, and his fans, he enters Romania’s best team, the Kinizsi team, whose powerful factor he becomes.
The good game played by the team of Táncos is appreciated by the managers of the Romanian Football Players’ Association too, which confirms the fact that, in the 1920s Kinizsi himself was the selected Romanian player. In May 7, 1926, in Istanbul, in the match against Turkey, the Romanian selected team wins the match (3-1). In Istanbul Táncos Mihály plays remarkably, he is the one who participates in the previous preparation of all the three goals. The members of the victorious team: Ritter Béla, Steiner Béla, Hoksáry Balázs, Steiner Rezső, Vogl Imre, Cseh Miklós, Táncos Mihály, Tesler János, Wetzer Rudolf, Semler Gusztáv, Matek Rudolf. Semler scores twice, Matek once.
The „right-sided” football player applies his talent in ten matches within the frames of the Romanian A-category. He is the member of the Romanian selected olympics who takes part in the Olympics Games in Paris, summer 1924. In 1927, after they win the sixth (the last) championship, the Kinizsi team, classified as an amateur team, undergoes a transformation, and its best players enter the professional clubs. Táncos Mihály gets a contract at the „Ferencváros,” Wetzer Rudolf and Vogl Imre obtains a contract at the „Újpest.” Táncos Mihály is also successful in Hungary, where between 1929 and 1939 he represents the green and white colours at high levels. They win the championship for three seasons (1931-1932, 1933-1934 and 1937-1938). Between 1930 and 1932, for five times, he is the member of the Hungarian selected players belonging to the A-category.
In winter 1939 he returns home, to Timisoara, for a while plays in the Ripensia team, but he cannot stop the team’s decline, although here he finds two great football players, Dumitru Pavlovics and Dobay István.
In 1940 he ends his active sport career. After the Second World War, he settles to Cluj. As a trainer, he deals with smaller teams without obtaining special results. He dies in 1993.
